[That's really me] That's me !

I was student at the University of Rostock, Department of Computer Science.

I'm a member of IAESTE Germany - Local Committee Rostock .

My research interests include the following ...

In 1995 I did a training at NEC Central Research Laboratories in Miyazaki, near Tokyo. I used to work in the Pattern Recognition Lab. I had a great time in Japan and I wish to thank all the colleagues I was working with, the IAESTE-Japan-members and give a hug to my friends in Tokyo.
Here are some MPEG-videos from that what I did at my diploma thesis. You can see a blood vessel system of the upper part of a human head. It was measured by 3D MR Angiography and is rendered here as a surface model with more than 85.000 triangles. The surface model was build in advance using the Marching Cubes algorithm. (There are better algorithms for angiography, but MC gives also a good impression). Into the angio dataset a morphological slice is blended, which is aquired in real time. This slice is volume rendered in order to see the slice semitransparent. In addition, a catheter which is moved by an interventional radiologist is visualized. Not only the position of the catheter can be visualized but also the catheter position can be used to control the field of view of the visualization as seen in the following MPEG sequences. With this kind of hybrid visualization it is possible to achieve about 5 frames per second on a SGI Reality Engine 2. (The original dataset was 256x256x90). It is also possible both the angio and the morphological dataset to display volume rendered at the same time. The software that produced the image files for the MPEG's is based on the volume renderer "volren" by Brian Cabral (SGI).
